Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Sharjah on Sunday evening and became the third team to reach the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) Playoffs after Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. As RCB secured a six-run win, Glenn Maxwell stood out with the bat while Yuzvendra Chahal bowled well. As PBKS were required to score 165 runs for the win, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal once again put up an expert batting display. In the seventh over, the pair put up a fifty-run stand with one good click.
Mayank began moving gears at the end of the seventh over when he was at 20 from 20 balls. After 10 overs, PBKS reached 81/0 as the right-hander hammered four fours in three overs. In the 11th over, Shahbaz Ahmed bowled KL Rahul for 39 runs, giving RCB their first success with the ball. Chahal defeated Nicholas Pooran to pick up RCB's second PBKS wicket as Mayank reached his half-century in the 13th over. The double-wicket 16th over by Chahal, in which he dismissed Mayank and Sarfaraz Khan, pegged PBKS back to 110 after 15 overs. Markram and Mayank pushed PBKS past 110 after 15 overs. The 17th over was then won by George Garton over Markram. As RCB defeated PBKS by 6 runs, Shahrukh Khan hit a few big hits but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
Padikkal hit sixes and fours in the third over while PBKS conceded just eleven in the first two overs. After RCB were 55/0 in the next over, Kohli got another reprieve after Sarfaraz was unable to hold onto a sharp catch. After that, Henriques began turning the tide for PBKS. During the tenth over, Daniel Christian and Kohli were both dismissed by the all-rounder. During the 12th over, Padikkal was dismissed by him. Maxwell responded by counterattacking. Two sixes scored in the 13th over as he took on Brar. While RCB moved past 100 in the 15th over, Maxwell hammered two maximums off Bishnoi. Two fours and a six helped Maxwell and AB de Villiers added 17 runs to the score in the 17th over, targeting Mohammad Shami. In Maxwell's next over, the pair reached a fifty-run stand. Despite ABD hitting a six in the penultimate over, he was run out by one of Sarfaraz's direct hits. Then, Shami bowled a three-wicket over to end with RCB on 164/7.
Here are the Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore 164/7 (Glenn Maxwell 57, Devdutt Padikkal 40; Moises Henriques 3/12) beat Punjab Kings 158/6 (Mayank Agarwal 57, KL Rahul 39; Yuzvendra Chahal 3/29) by 6 runs.
