Match 46 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) in Sharjah saw the Delhi Capitals (DC) hold their nerve and defeat Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets. With Shreyas Iyer scoring 33* and R Ashwin chipping in with an unbeaten 20, DC secured their ninth victory this season. As DC needed 130 runs to win, Shikhar Dhawan was caught short of his crease by Kieron Pollard in the second over. Prithvi Shaw was then out LBW by Krunal Pandya in the third over for DC. Nathan Coulter-Nile disturbed the timber in the fifth over by bowling Steve Smith, as MI picked up three wickets in the powerplay, In a quickfire 26 run, Rishabh Pant peeled off three fours and a six to score 26 runs. In the 9th over of the DC chase, Jayant Yadav struck to end his knock for DC. MI broke the DC resistance at regular intervals during Iyer's stay and reduced DC to 93 for six after Axar Patel and Shimron Hetmyer were dismissed in the 12th over and 14th over respectively.
Hetmyer was replaced in the middle by Ashwin, and Iyer joined them. As a result, DC was able to make its way home on a 39-run stand. MI and DC each changed their playing XI earlier as Jayant Yadav and Prithvi Shaw were added to their squads. Rohit Sharma was out in the second over of MI's innings, as Avesh Khan took a wicket in his first over. When Suryakumar Yadav came to the crease, he opened up the innings with a six on the third ball he faced. However, DC mostly maintained its ball control and gave up only 35 runs in the powerplay. De Kock was bowled by Axar Patel in the seventh over, which was DC's second wicket. MI passed fifty after Suryakumar hit six and two fours in the eighth over against R Ashwin. After that, Axar Patel picked up two more wickets. Suryakumar was bowled by the DC all-rounder in the 11th over, and Saurabh Tiwary was also dismissed in the 13th over.
