In the VIVO Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by two wickets. Shubman Gill scored 57 as KKR won. KKR's sixth victory of the season came after restricting SRH to 115/8 and chasing down the target in 19.4 overs. Kane Williamson caught a wonderful catch in the fifth over off Jason Holder as SRH kept the ball tight and helped them scalp Venkatesh Iyer. In the seventh over, Rashid Khan faced Rahul Tripathi and struck straightaway, dismissing him. The pair of Gill and Rana made the perfect partnership for the KKR. They played cautiously while capitalizing on every scoring chance. The combination of Gill and Rana then ended the 16th over with a half-century partnership. However, both of them fell quickly after that. Holder snared his second wicket by getting Rana out, while Siddarth Kaul dismissed Gill for 57.
A combination of Dinesh Karthik, who achieved 4000 runs in the IPL, and Eoin Morgan brought KKR to victory. Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed by Tim Southee in the first over after SRH decided to bat. During the fourth over, Shivam Mavi struck and removed Jason Roy. Shakib Al Hasan's brilliant direct hit ended Williamson's innings after he scored a brisk 26. The eleventh over saw Shakib take care of Abhishek Sharma. After getting rid of Priyam Garg for 21 in the 15th over, KKR took SRH to 70/5 with another wicket from Varun Chakaravarthy. With KKR chipping away at SRH, the score ended on 115/8.
