As Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Match 34 concludes in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, Rahul Tripathi and Venkatesh Iyer dazzled with the bat to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeat Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets. KKR chased the target down with 4.5 overs to spare after Iyer made his first IPL fifty and Tripathi hit an unbeaten 74 off 42 balls. Iyer and Shubman Gill fired KKR to a scintillating start as they reached 40 runs in 17 deliveries, with 156 to win. As a result of Jasprit Bumrah's disruption of the timber, Gill was dismissed from the partnership.

The presence of Tripathi in the middle of the pitch ensured that KKR didn't lose its momentum. Both Iyer and the right-hander contributed 23 runs in the final three overs of the powerplay as KKR moved to 63/1. Following the initial big-hitting, the KKR batsmen continued to hit hard, scoring 48 runs in the next four overs to take the team to 111/1 at the end of 10 overs. With 25 balls left, the left-handed player struck a fine fifty, which was his first in the IPL. KKR continued its batting triumph as Tripathi reached his seventh half-century in the IPL.

However, MI managed to break the partnership of 88 runs courtesy of Bumrah, which ended Iyer's innings. Tripathi took home the win for KKR, while the right-arm pacer picked up one more wicket by dismissing Eoin Morgan. Prior to that, KKR, who retained the winning combination from their performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), turned to bowl against MI, who saw Rohit Sharma return.

The Mumbai Indians were cautious in the first two overs, but Rohit and Quinton de Kock hit four fours within the next two overs. MI were 56/0 at the end of six overs after Kock hit three sixes in the next two overs. In the ninth over, de Kock smashed a couple of fours off Andre Russell. The opening stand was broken in the 10th over of the innings when Sunil Narine dismissed Rohit. After three overs, Prasidh Krishna picked up his first wicket - Suryakumar Yadav.

De Kock ended the innings with a fine half-century as MI crossed fifty, but was dismissed soon after as Prasidh struck in the 15th over. Lockie Ferguson struck his first wicket when he removed Ishan Kishan. Before getting out, Kiron Pollard and Krunal Pandya combined for a quickfire 30-run stand.

Here are the Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders 159/3 (Rahul Tripathi 74*, Venkatesh Iyer 53; Jasprit Bumrah 3/43) beat Mumbai Indians 155/6 (Quinton de Kock 55, Rohit Sharma 33; Lockie Ferguson 2/27) by seven wickets.
