After defeating Mumbai Indians with a 20-run, Chennai Super Kings made it to the top of the table. IPL 2021 of the UAE leg begins with Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings. 156 runs were scored by CSK when they played first. While MI was chasing 157 to win, both Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya were dismissed in quick succession leaving them at 94/6. To give CSK their first breakthrough, Deepak Chahar gave Quinton de Kock a leg before wicket for 17 and followed that up by bowling Anmolpreet Singh cleanly. Shhardul Thakur got the big wicket of Suryakumar Yadav during his first over. CSK posted 156/6 through Ruturaj Gaikwad's Sixth IPL fifty, in which he hit off 58 balls for 88 runs. Adam Milne took two wickets, Jasprit Bumrah picked up one and Trent Boult took two. With Jadeja's wicket, Gaikwad and Bumrah added 81 runs until the partnership was broken. Faf du Plessis was dismissed for a duck by Boult in the first over of the innings for MI. Immediately following, Milne and Boult dismissed Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina for 7/3, reducing CSK to that score. With MS Dhoni being dismissed by Milne in the Powerplay, it became 24/4. As a result of an elbow injury, Ambati Rayudu had to retire.
