World Kindness Day

1. When is World Kindness Day and Why do We Celebrate It?

World Kindness Day is a global day observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It was founded in 1998 to promote kindness across the world.

World Kindness Day encourages people to be kind to one another, to themselves, and to the world. The goal of this day is to teach everyone that kindness is what brings us all together. This comprehension has the potential to bridge national divides. We can bridge political, racial, religious, and gender divides with kindness.

2. World Kindness Day: History

The World Kindness Movement first proposed World Kindness Day as a day of observation. The organization was officially registered as an NGO under Swiss law in 2019, but its history dates back to a 1997 convention in Tokyo. A diverse range of organizations and associations from Australia, Thailand, the United States, and the United Kingdom had gathered at this summit to champion kindness in society. Many countries, including Canada, Australia, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates, have reported it. Singapore celebrated the World Kindness Day for the first time in 2009. The day was also observed in Italy and India.

The World Kindness Movement's initial configuration would emerge as a result of this event, with their founding written declaration stating their "pledge to join together to build a kinder and more compassionate world." In pursuit of this goal, they would facilitate the first World Kindness Day in 1998.

According to the World Kindness Movement, the goal of World Kindness Day is "to highlight good deeds in the community while focusing on the positive power and common thread of kindness that binds us." Participants from every continent have participated in the day since its inception more than two decades ago. Concerts, dance mobs, and the distribution of "kindness cards" have been among the activities.

3. What is Kindness?

Kindness encompasses all of the various ways in which we display care, concern, and consideration for ourselves and those with whom we share the world, both large and small. Kindness manifests itself as a caring smile, a comforting embrace, and a helping hand when we most need it — but least expect it.

It exists in the form of heartfelt words of encouragement, thoughtful gestures of affection, and compassionate acts of generosity that so many of us witness, perform, and receive as we go about our daily lives. Kindness is like a deep cleansing breath in a world full of struggle and pain, rejuvenating us with its purity, refreshing us with its goodness, and giving us the strength to persevere despite our difficulties.

Kindness requires a choice since there are numerous alternatives to kindness which will lure us throughout our lives, such as apathy and anger. Conditions may assess us. People may attempt to test us. We may be troubled by news. Despite these challenges, each of us has the wonderful opportunity to actively decide to be kind. Furthermore, since there are so many multiple ways to be kind, kindness requires choice.

4. Significance of World Kindness Day

Despite living in a hectic and self-centered world, we occasionally come across acts of kindness that warm our hearts. Kindness and doing good for others are excellent moral values to cultivate. World Kindness Day serves as a reminder to everyone that kindness can be expressed in both words and actions and that it has the power to change the world.

Many people are preoccupied with their own lives and fail to consider what others require. Doing nice things for others isn't just good for them; it can also be good for you! Other days of celebration encourage people to express their gratitude to the fullest extent possible.
