Places to Visit in Agra During Taj Mahotsav:
Taj Mahal: The Taj Mahal is incredible not just because of its beauty, but also because of the meticulous planning and design that went into its creation, as well as the ethereal notion of immortalizing love. The fort was completed in eight years, but subsequent emperors could not resist leaving their imprint by constructing customized palaces and mosques such as Moti Masjid, Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Jahangir's Palace, Khaas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, and Musamman Burz.
Mehtab Bagh: Mehtab Bagh is situated on the left side of the Yamuna River, directly across from the Taj Mahal. The garden complex is a massive 300m × 300m area that lies just across from the Taj Mahal. The excavation uncovered a massive octagonal tank on the southern rim, baradaris or pavilions on the east and west, a tiny octagonal tank in the middle, and a doorway on the northern wall.
Sikandra: This is Akbar's mausoleum. It embodies his ideology and viewpoint, fusing the finest of Hindu and Muslim architecture in a magnificent combination. It is one of the best-preserved monuments, having been completed in 1613 A.D.
Jama Masjid: The rectangular open forecourt structure was built around 1648 A.D. Its magnificent incorporation of Iranian architecture is especially noteworthy.
Ram Bagh: It was one of the first gardens built by Emperor Babur, the father of the Mughal dynasty. Babur is claimed to have been briefly buried here before being taken to Kabul, Afghanistan.
Fatehpur Sikri: Sonless Akbar visited Sikri in 1564 A.D. seeking the grace of the Muslim Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti. As his son was born, the emperor called this location Fatehpur Sikri in gratitude.
Bateshwar: Bateshwar is primarily a temple town located on the banks of the sacred Yamuna River. Bateshwar boasts a variety of temples, which formerly numbered 101. These 42 temples are still standing today. The long stretch of Ghats sprinkled with temples is the highlight of this pilgrim town. Some of the temple's ceilings include stunning ancient frescoes created with vegetable colors that have been preserved. Tourist bungalows and several Dharmshalas provide lodging. Each year, one of the major livestock fairs is conducted here.
Patna Bird Sanctuary: The Patna Bird Sanctuary emerges like an oasis in the dry zone of Jalesar, Etah district. Spread over 108 hectares of land, this refuge for migrating and native birds was designated as a protected sanctuary in 1991. Ornithologists have identified around 200 distinct exotic bird species. Aside from migrating birds, Patna Bird Sanctuary also serves as a permanent home for indigenous birds. Every year, hundreds of pilgrims seek spiritual fulfillment at an ancient and historic temple devoted to Lord Shiva.
