- Rahul Tripathi inherited cricket from his father, who himself was a Uttarakhand junior level cricketer and also played university cricket. When his father shifted to Pune, his father ensured that Rahul was trained in cricket by professionals, thus Rahul started his training at Deccan Gymkhana, one of India's most popular cricket training academies.
- Rahul Tripathi started his cricketing career by playing first-class cricket for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy. He was bought by Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL auction 2017 for 10 lakhs. That season he opened for Rising Pune Supergiant along with Ajinkya Rahane and impressed everyone with his batting skills.
- He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for 3.4 Crores in the 2018 IPL auction.
- Later in 2020, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for 60 Lakhs in the IPL auction.
