History and Significance of Mother's Day:

The first memorial for Anna Jarvis' mother was held at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1908. When her mother Ann Reeves Jarvis died in 1905, she began a campaign to have Mother's Day recognised as a holiday in the United States. While her desire to declare the day a holiday was first rebuffed, by 1911, states across the United States had begun to observe a holiday to honour their mothers.

In 1941, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation declaring the second Sunday in May as a national holiday in honour of mothers. Other countries, like India, have begun to follow the tradition of honouring and celebrating mothers who love their children unconditionally.
