Kamalpreet Kaur is an Indian athlete and discus thrower. Kamalpreet Kaur is supported by GoSports Foundation through the Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Program. Kamalpreet Kaur is the first Indian woman to break the 65m barriers in the discus throw and set a national record and qualify for Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Kamalpreet Kaur's Early Life and Family:

Kamalpreet Kaur was born on 4 March 1996 in Badal village, Sri Muktsar Sahib district, Punjab. Kamalpreet Kaur started out as a discus thrower at the insistence of her physical education coach. She started her career as a discus thrower in 2012 by participating in a state-level tournament and finished fourth in it.

Biography of Kamalpreet Kaur:

Kamalpreet Kaur started taking discus throw sport seriously in 2014 and after that, she started her training with the SAI (Sports Authority of India) centre in her village. At SAI she trained herself hard with complete dedication and commitment towards the sport, which resulted in her becoming the Under-18 and Under-20 National Champion in Discus Throw in 2016. In the 2017 World University Games, she secured the sixth rank. Kamalpreet Kaur's ideal is Seema Punia. She is taking training from Rakhi Tyagi. Kamalpreet Kaur is a railway employee.

Achievements of Kamalpreet Kaur

  • She finished fifth in the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships, Doha.
  • In the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in 2019, she won the gold medal and finished with 60.25m. thrown
  • In the 24th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships, Patiala, Kamalpreet Kaur set a record and threw 65.06m and won the gold medal and qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Kamalpreet Kaur at Tokyo Olympics 2020:

Kamalpreet Kaur gave her best performance in the Olympic Tokyo Olympics 2020 and finished second and also qualified for the finals. Kamalpreet Kaur started with a throw of 60.29m, then threw 63.97m in her second attempt and 64m in her last attempt. The discus throw final will be held on August 2, 2021, so let's see if Kamalpreet can end the medal drought for India.
