Tirumala Navarathri Brahmotsavam Festival (15 October to 23, October 2023): Annual celebrations of Brahmotsavam take place throughout the nine days of Dussehra Navratri at the renowned Tirumala Temple in Andhra Pradesh. For Hindu believers, this event is of utmost importance. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has made the Brahmotsavam schedule public.
For those who want to visit Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, this event has been eagerly anticipated. At Tirumala Temple, devotees get the chance to see this magnificent event. The Tirumala Navarathri Brahmotsavam will start on October 15, 2023, and end on October 23, 2023.
Shardiya Navratri Festival (15 October to 23, October 2023): Two occasions of Navratri are observed each year - Chaitra Navratri in the spring and Sharad or Shardiya Navratri in the fall. In the Ashwin month of the Hindu calendar (September–October), Sharad Navratri is observed for nine days. Pratipada, the name of the first day of Sharad Navratri, and Maha Navami, the name of the last day.
The nine-day Sharad Navratri festival honours Goddess Durga and her nine incarnations. The festival this year begins on October 15. It will go on till the Dussehra ceremony on October 24.
Durga Puja (22, October 2023): Durga Puja, also known as Durga-Utsav, is a five-day festival that holds a special place in our hearts. It starts on Shashti and wraps up on Vijayadashami. These five days are named Shashti, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Dashami.
During this time, families decorate their homes and beautifully crafted temporary structures called pandals. Everyone gets dressed in new clothes, and a joyous atmosphere fills the air. This year Durga-Utsav or Durgashtami will be celebrated on October 22, 2023.
Dussehra/ Vijayadashami: Dussehra, also called Vijaya Dashami. It honours the victory of good over evil, symbolised by Lord Ram defeating the demon king Ravana. The word "Dussehra" comes from Sanskrit, with "dasha" meaning ten and "hara" signifying defeat. People across the country celebrate Dussehra by burning huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath, signifying the end of evil forces.
In Hindu mythology, Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, who had ten heads representing qualities like pride, hate, lust, fear, attachment, anger, ego, greed, insensibility, and envy, is the highlight of Dussehra.
Sharad Purnima (28 October 2023): A Hindu festival called Sharad Purnima, sometimes called Kojagari Purnima, is observed on the day of the full moon in the month of Sharad. It signals the conclusion of the monsoon season and the beginning of the harvest season.
Devotees maintain fasts, pray to the moon, and take part in celebrations. On the eve of Sharad Purnima, kheer is made in every home, when the moon of Sharad Purnima is seen, arghya is offered to the moon, and then it is given out as prasad.
