There isn't a lot of attention paid to UN speeches, but this one from K-pop hitmakers BTS caught the eye: a call for vaccines, youth, and the Earth's wellbeing. Taking centre stage in the General Assembly Hall to help promote the United Nations' goals for 2030, the seven-member musical juggernaut presented their sustainability program before the green-marbled backdrop. At the 76th United Nations General Assembly, BTS performed "Permission to Dance" as part of their role as "Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture.".

As the representative of the youth today during the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Moment, BTS shared their remarks. After addressing the UN twice previously, in 2018 and 2020, this is their third speech. The BTS members asked the youth throughout the globe via their social channels "How did the last 2 years go for you, and how is the world today?" During their speech preparation. As well as presenting stories from across the globe, they also served as messengers, helping to spread the message to generations to come.

Introducing the septet was President Moon Jae-in. The septet shared stories about how youth are taking action to live healthier lives or think about climate change. The BTS quoted youth speaking out courageously, "We think 'welcome generation' would be a more appropriate name to describe the youth leading challenges to themselves, "Because instead of fearing change, this generation welcomes and embraces it! Furthermore, they stressed vaccination as a key to protection. They concluded on a positive note: "The day we can meet again face to face is not far off." Taking responsibility for our lives is the first step towards change. It is our hope to be able to say to each other, "Welcome"!

Following the speech, the band performed "Permission to Dance" beginning in the General Assembly Hall and moving to the lobby. Who are BTS : 

The Bangtan Boys are a South Korean boy band formed in 2010 under the umbrella of Big Hit Entertainment. They debuted in 2013 as a seven-member group under the name BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan).
