Asian Games: Introduction

The Asian Games, commonly known as ASIAD or the Olympics Games of Asia, are a multi-sport continental tournament conducted every fourth year like the Olympics Games but solely for Asian athletes. Up to the 1978 Delhi Games, these games were initially organized and regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF). Since 1982, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is organizing and governed the Asian Games in place of the Asian Games Federation. After the Olympics, the Asian Games are regarded as the second-largest multisport event in the world.

Since 2010, the host cities have also hosted the Asian Para Games after the Asian Games. Asian Para Games is a competition for disabled athletes.

History of Asian Games:

I think it will not be an exaggeration to say that Guru Dutt Sondhi is the father of Asian Games. Because Guru Dutt Sondhi, a representative of India on the International Olympic Committee, introduced the concept of a new tournament called the Asian Games when China and the Philippines were having talks to revive the Far Eastern Games at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. As a result, the Asian Athletic Federation was established and officially launched on February 13th, 1949 in New Delhi. In 1950, Delhi was chosen as the first city to hold the Asian Games.
