Jack Fruit: - The jackfruit, also known as the jack tree, is a species of tree in the fig, mulberry, and breadfruit family. Its origin is in the region between the Western Ghats of Southern India and the rainforests of Malaysia. Scientific name: Artocarpus heterophyllus
Jackfruit is completely one of a sort tropical fruit recognized for its unique shape, and size. The fruity flavours of its sweet arils (bulbs) can be appreciated from a distance. Jackfruit is a huge tree that grows up to a height of 30 meters. It is believed to be indigenous to the Southwestern rainforests of India. Today, it is widely cultivated throughout the tropical regions of the Indian subcontinent, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brazil for its seeds, fruit, and wood. The best atmosphere for Jack Fruits tree to grows is in tropical humid and rainy climates but it doesn’t survive the cold climatic conditions. In a season, each tree bears as many as 250 large fruits, supposed to be the biggest tree-borne fruits in the world. The fruit varies widely in size, weighs from 3 to 30 kg, and has an oblong or round shape, measuring 10 cm to 60 cm in length, 25 to 75 cm in diameter. Though unripe fruits are green in colour once they ripe completely their colour change to light brown spread a strong sweet, fruity smell.
The outer surface of the jackfruit is covered with blunt spikes which get softer once the fruit ripens. Inside the Jack Fruit, we can see orange-yellow colour edible bulbs. Each and every bulb consists of sweet flesh (sheath) that encloses a smooth, oval, light-brown seed. There may be 50 to 500 edible bulbs that can be seen inside of a single fruit. Jackfruit seeds are covered inside a thin, transparent outer cover. It mainly consists of starch and protein.

Ingredients required for Jack Fruit (Kathal) Curry preparation- Packaged or Fresh Jackfruit- 250 grams, Chopped onions – ¼ Cup, 3 teaspoon Oil for dip frying, Dried Red Chillies 4-5, Garam Masala- Half teaspoon, Coriander Powder- 2 teaspoons, Red Chilli Powder- ½ teaspoon, Turmeric Powder- ¼ teaspoon, Tomato Puree- 1 Cup, Roasted Cumin Powder – ¾ teaspoon, Black Cardamom, salt - as per taste
How to prepare Jack Fruit (Kathal) Curry- First of all, take jack fruit pieces after cleaning it and deep fry it, till its colour changes to a little golden. Now take these on absorbent paper. Now take oil in the pan and add onions to it and fry it well, now add back cardamom seeds, red chillies and continue to fry it for another 2 minutes. Now add roasted cumin powder, garam masala powder and fry it for another 1 minute. Add all remaining ingredients and mix well. Now at last add tomato puree and mix it well. Now keep it on the gas until oil gets separated from the curry. Now add fried jack fruit and mix it well. Now keep it for 1 day so that jack fruit pieces can soak in the masala well. The next day you can eat this curry.
Vegan Jack Fruit (Kathal) Salad:
Ingredients required for the preparation of Vegan Jack Fruit (Kathal) Salad- Fresh or Canned Jack Fruit, Carrot 1 or 2, Onion - ¼ Cup, Bell Pepper – ¼ Cup, Vegan Mayo – 3-4 Teaspoon, Salt- As per taste, Black Paper – 3-4, Half stalk of Celery
How to prepare Vegan Jack Fruit (Kathal) Salad- Take jack fruit in a large bowl. Now chop down all the vegetable- Onion, bell pepper and celery. Shred you Carrot. Now add al these vegetable into the large bowl also add salt and black pepper. Mixed this properly. Add Vegan Mayo. Now stir this mixer well until all thing mixed properly. Now it is ready.
Jack Fruit (Kathal) Smoothie:
Ingredients for Jack Fruit (Kathal) Smoothie- Jackfruit- 10-12 Bulb (Seeds removed and chopped), Milk – 2 Cups, Sugar- ½ cup, Honey- As per taste, Ice Cubes – As per requirement
How to make Jack Fruit (Kathal) Smoothie- First of all, add sugar to the milk and stir it well so that sugar can be dissolved fully into the milk. Now boil this mixture for 2-3 minutes. Cool down this and pour it into the blender now add chopped jackfruits and blend well. Pour it into glasses.
